Georgia Arms .223 reloads are not trustworthy

Was talking to someone in the gun biz this evening and he advised me of a situation where someone had a case head separation due to a deformed .223 case reloaded by Georgia Arms. This party brought in a handful of these Georgia Arms reloads with their fouled up AR. The deformity was obvious at the shoulder where the cases were bulged. They speculated that the case mouth was not chamfered and when the bullet was being seated it got jammed up in the case mouth just before it got seated resulting in the bulged shoulder. This defect was evident in most of the cases this party brought in. Clearly a failure to maintain quality control.

So be advised that Georgia Arms ammo is unsafe to use as personal defense ammo, stick with known first line manufacturers.

This was kicked around awhile back (good luck finding it on a search - I never seem to have any luck finding anything.) Anyway, I remember lots of links to a couple of AR-15 forums about kabooms (KBs) in some ARs, and getting the run-around from GA on admitting liability (as if they'd gladly fork out a couple thousand FRNs to replace these guys' brand new RRA rifles).

I guess their pistol ammo is ok from what I've read. As for the .223, I've used about 50 rounds out of a 500 rd box I bought a year ago with no problems. But then I guess it only takes one bad one to ruin your AR permanently.

I personally have fired literally tens of thousands of rounds of Georgia Arms ammo. 9mm, .45ACP and .223, never have I had any problems, but I keep my guns clean (except for my AK's, you don't have to clean them as often and I run Wolf through them). Georgia Arms is my ammo of choice.

I load almost all my rifle stuff but I've bought and fired 1000's of pistol rounds (9mm, 38, 40, 41 Mag, 45 ACP) from them with no problems at all. I go to gun shows just to buy their stuff.

I thought you only had friends who played with AK's? What are you doing hanging out with AR people? oO

I havent shot thousands but I have shot a couple hundred rounds with no problems. But I agree with Lars Ragnarsson, it only takes one!

"Only takes one" That's why I depend on a revolver for personal defense.

This isn't one of the links I remember, but food for thought....

I live about a mile from Ga. arms and have been shooting their ammo for about 18 years. I don't own anything that shoots .223 but, for 3 years my next door neighbor had a full auto mini 14 that I shot literally thousands of rounds through,a great deal of which came from Ga. arms. I still have 2, .30 ammo cans full of .223 in the basement that I bought that we never got around to shooting up. I have shot their pistol ammo in matches before. I am sure that sh!t happens and mistakes can be made but I will bet my life on Ga. arms ammo before I will remchester. Most of the Leos in the area get all there ammo from there.
I shoot A LOT. I have a 100 yard range in the back yard. I have taken a FULL pick up truck of spent brass up there to exchange for ammo. We know each other well and I trust them.

Juandisimo has spoken on Ga. Arms.

While reloading 223 I sometimes have shoulder setback/bulge while seating a bullet that I am crimping. Near as I can figure the neck/cOAL is a liitle too long and gets squeezed in the die and since it is not a tight chamber fit being a seating die, it has enough room to collapse the case a little bulging the shoulder.
If they are not too bad, have put these in a cse guage and the base sticks up a few thousanths, enough that the bolt may chamber the round but not lock.
I don't recommend shooting these. I pull them down and reform them as blanks with 10gr unique and cornmeal with a wad. This combo will blow a hole thru a steel motorcycle muffler baffle so don't think just because its a blank, it is harmless. its not. Back the die out a little.
